The Marcy Project

Marcy – A section of New York drenched in history, made famous by Shawn Carter (aka Jay-Z), but made infamous from the hard grinds of local street entrepreneurs, certified gangsters, hood legends and an array of hungry MC’s, producers and DJ’s all who carved their names in the illustrious underworld and gained notoriety for mastering their craft and eliminating their competition.

Super producer Vinny Idol (D-Block), Geda K (Former Roc-A-Fella Records star) and Marcy Hiphop staple A.K Chop form the Marcy Project, a group, and subsequent album that personifies Marcy Projects – a sound track to the culture of the buildings that birthed some of New Yorks, and the world’s most notorious figures.

A product of a hustling single-mother who died when A.K. Chop was 11, he was raised predominantly by his grandmother, along with his sister and two brothers. At a young age he chose to adopt responsibility for his siblings and followed his mother’s footsteps into a world of drugs and illicit activity, which resulted in A.K. Chop serving time in various prisons from Upstate to Downstate to Sing-Sing

A.K. Chop’s ability to crush his opponents viciously enabled him to form a crew of Marcy’s finest rappers with Geda K in the early 1990’s called Crook Lyn Banners that comprised of the best rappers from all corners of the projects. This all-star hood crew also consisted of Memphis Bleek, H Money Bags, Ant, T.I.Z, and Gutta.

Geda K, an accomplished lyricist in his own right came up to the mainstream and the world bubbling in the shadows of Memphis Bleek and Jay-Z during the hay-day of Roc-A-Fella Records. His unique flow and ability to ride any beat gave him instant appeal across the Hiphop board.
