The state of Georgia has produced many successful artists and remains a giant in the Hip-Hop industry for shaping the careers of MCs. Names like T.I., Outkast, Young Jeezy, Pastor Troy and Ludacris are just a few to list that have actually reached pinnacles only some artists dream about. One dreamer that hails from the peach state with goals of being mentioned among the greats is Stone. Having a very distinct sound with undeniable lyrical talent, Stone brings new truth and attitude to Hip-Hop.
This mc/writer/musician/producer has dreamed of the entertainment life ever since his days of growing up on the country roads of South Georgia. At age of 23, Stone not only imagines himself as a successful artist, but is determined to do whatever it takes to achieve his goals.
Stone, how did you get in the Hip-Hop game?
Well, I started out as a Mixtape DJ, ya know blendin’ tracks and remixin’ records and I’ve also been listenin’ to hip hop for years, man ever since the days of old Snoop & Dre to Warren G & Nate Dogg. So hip hop has always been a passion of mine and it was only set that I pursue a career.
What are you bringing to the rap “table”?
I’m tryna bring not just a new sound, every MCs tryna do that, but a new meaning. Like, I ain’t sayin’ I’m tryna revive Hip Hop, Hip Hop ain’t dead, but it’s damn sure needin’ some CPR, and I think that’s where I can come in and help.
So Stone, who are the Gordon Boys?
The Gordon Boys was a Hip Hop group I was in. We put some heated tracks out late 2008, but it’s nothin’ like what I’m doin now. The Gordon Boys was mainly a homegrown southern, what we liked to call, “Hick-Hop” group; but again, my whole demeanor, flow, and delivery has well grown since then, but I’ll always be thankful for the group.
I know this may be a touchy subject, but what do you have to say to the critics and listeners that say you may be just another White guy trying to rap?
First off, this how I look at it. Good music is always gonna be good music. Whether you black, white, Asian, purple, red, blue or green, good music will always be recognized as good music. When your track’s bumpin through some 808’s in a ’72 big body or some factory Bose system in a ‘05 Jetta, you don’t see color or race; you just hear the lyrics and the beat.
What is your future plans right now Stone?
Well, right now I’m finishin’ up my first solo EP, not yet titled. I got some straight hell fire tracks on there with collaborations from Ahmed, Derek Cate, Pimp T., Do3 BOi and former Bad Boy recording artist Scotty Graham, and after the EP drops I’ll be goin knuckle to knuckle to take flight. So right now that’s what I got goin’, not to mention the building of DTE (Dirty Thirty Entertainment), our production company. So be on the look for that.
