Philadelphia is a city well known for producing great musical talent and successful artists. Born and raised in West Philadelphia, Ray Wellz is another gifted lyricist from the \”City Of Brotherly Love\”. Ray Wellz is a 27 year old hip hop artist/song writer with a very unique style and versatile flow.

Since the age of thirteen it has been Wellz\’ dream to be named amongst the elite of the hip hop class. He began writing rap songs after being inspired by his older cousin Myley Gates and listening to Biggie Smalls debut album \”Ready To Die\”. Ray Wellz knew that entertainment was his calling early in life. Since then, Wellz has been crafting and perfecting his writing and performance skills. In 2007, Ray Wellz signed a recording contract with an independent label, Calm Down Records. During his tenure with the label Ray Wellz completed his debut album, \”Best Artist Of The Year\”, which was produced entirely by the CEO of the label Jay Billin. Ray Wellz decided to title his album \”Best Artist Of The Year\” simply because he feels that in order to be successful you must be confident and believe that you are the best at what you do. This album is packed with originality and creativity. Wellz displays his wide range of versatility on \”Best Artist Of The Year\” with songs that are hardcore, political, club anthems, and inspirational. Jay Billin created the perfect sound for the project, which further enhances Wellz\’ vocals. \”Best Artist Of The Year\” is currently in stores and online for purchase and was released December 2008. Ray Wellz has since parted ways with Calm Down Records and is an unsigned artist. Currently, Ray Wellz is writing for other artists until the best situation comes along his way.
