Khalil and I are in the same boat- 2 heterosexual individuals who defend and stand up for the plight of homosexual individuals fighting to be treated with equality and accepted for their individuality, no matter what their sexuality. Alas, but we are also both African-Americans living in America. Who better to understand what it means to be discriminated against, disrespected, and treated unfairly just because of who we are? My company is 100% geared towards educating heterosexuals about the challenges and obstacles homosexuals face every single day, while at the same time providing a platform for individuals and recording artists to express themselves without having to worry about ridicule, bias, discrimination and most importantly downplaying or changing their image. Have you ever asked yourself why is it that discrimination against homosexuals is the last form of ACCEPTABLE discrimination in this country and abroad? Or did it never cross your mind to even think about it? Something else those of you STRAIGHT people with kids probably never asked yourself- what would you do if your son or daughter came home and told you they were gay? See homosexuality crosses ALL gender lines, nationalities, ages, and even professions. Look at how many elected officials in powerful positions are gay-but why is that a scandal? You say it is because they deceived the public by not broadcasting their sexuality at the time they ran for office? Blasphemy! Their sexuality never affected your vote for them at the polls during the race. Why? Because all the voters cared about was the candidate’s ability to do the job AND do it better than whomever was currently in office. The color of your skin speaks before you can even open your mouth, and many people make their decisions about you before you can utter a single word-EVERY SINGLE DAY OF YOUR LIFE! Many say homosexuals can conceal their sexuality. This is an advantage to whom? If the person and their ability to perform is all that matters, then what difference does their sexuality make? So they can conceal their sexuality to be given a fair chance at the start of the race, an advantage that people of color are automatically denied because they cannot conceal the color of their skin. It’s called IGNORANCE- bottom line, period. The thing is, change cannot come for ANY minority group unless members of the majority stop, listen, and CARE enough to act. To make a difference. If members of the majority just keep on walking by, then all the cries of the minority continuously go unheard, for they fall upon deaf ears. The Civil Rights Movement didn’t become a Movement until white Americans listened to the cries of black Americans and JOINED our struggle, fighting WITH us to make changes. White people went to other white people and for the sake of humanity said that things had to change and they didn’t back down until changes were made, and that is what people like Khalil Amani, myself and so many others are doing when it comes to equal rights and fair treatment of homosexuals. My contribution is Rainbow Muzik, a gay and lesbian record label for both hetero- and homosexual recording artists that simply provides opportunities that otherwise do not exist. We are primarily a website http://www.rainbowmuzik.com providing educational features, entertainment, and social networking. My personal view is that people only act biased and discriminate against things they don’t know about.
