Money, Cars, Clothes, Hoes…

\"bmeekins\"I just wanna be… I just wanna be successful…

I know, I know…

No… This post isn’t about Drake. But I guess you could say part of the inspiration does come from that song. I was listening to it the other day and started thinking.

What is success?

The thing that everyone wants but only a few seems to achieve…

Is it really all about the money, the cars, the clothes, and the hoes?

I suppose, to some it might be… but that’s the key.

We all want to be successful. But, before one can achieve success, they have to first define what success is. Sounds easy enough, right? Not necessarily. That’s because success is relative. What some deem successful might be meaningless to others. If you are rich, famous, can buy anything you want, go anywhere at any time and hobnob with some of the elite players on the planet no matter where your G4 touches down… you might be considered a success to some. But there are people in the world like that who end their lives, simply because they’re lonely.

Miserable…

Alone…

Stacks of Benjamins soaked with tears.

When you have money, it’s easy to tell that you have a lot of “friends”… The problem is, it’s hard to tell WHY you have a lot of friends. One of my favorite Cee-Lo lyrics is, “It would be nice to have mo’, but I kinda like bein’ po’, at least I know what my friends here fo’.”

My boy Webster defines success as: a favorable or desired outcome; the attainment of wealth, favor, or eminence.

“I want the money (money)… and the cars (cars)… and the clothes (clothes)… the hoes… I suppose. I just wanna be… I just wanna be… successful.”

Sorry, I kinda dig the song. Even though the words don’t really go with the concept, but that’s probably just me…

So what is success? A favorable or desired outcome. That’s about as vaguely specific a sentence as you can get. The attainment of weatlth? Nah… not so much. Monetary gains are not even a variable. If you live in a middle class apartment complex, you can still be successful. Like happiness, success is really just a full serving of mindset with a side of achievable goals. If you have your own business and you are struggling to stay afloat but you are growing a little bit at a time and love what you do… you are successful. You might not have reached the full level of success that YOU want. But when you really think about it, as long as you are happy… success is inevitable.

“Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.”

Big Up Albert Schweitzer!!

If you have a job that you might not like so much, but when you leave and go home your family loves you, your neighbors are happy to see you and your community supports you… Again, you are successful. You can be the Vice President of Marketing for the largest cell phone company in the world, make tons of money, buy a house in the hills and ride in the newest of the new. But if you are alone, all your real friends have left because you’ve “changed”, you family doesn’t respect you… the new friends you have do… but you can’t trust them because you don’t know why they’re really around… Your boss looks at you with a certain smug, superior –type look that lets you know he’s aware that he can replace you whenever you become a burden…

Is that success? I mean you have the money, the cars, the clothes… maybe even a few h0es, right? Everything that you covet… A laudable individual if ever you did see one, right? But that’s not success. Extra capital letters behind your name don’t make you happy. It only means you can charge more for the same services you used to do for cheap.

Success, in the terms of having a successful life, is more about you than what you have. Are you happy? If not, why? If you don’t know why, why aren’t you thinking about it? Do you like where you are in life? No? Change it! Will it be easy? Probably not. Will it be worth it? More than you know.

Success is not a tangible thing. It’s not something you can reach out and capture… hide in your bathroom and check on it every few minutes to see if it’s still there. It’s a feeling. It would be similar to trying to capture happiness. You can either choose to be it… or choose to let it pass you by and land on someone else. Please believe that success (much like happiness) is not waiting around for you to find it. Much like a mythical unicorn. Everybody wants it, but very few are willing to put forth the effort to attain it. Become an honorable person. Honorable people refuse anything less than success.

“Try not to become a man of success but rather try to become a man of value”

Big Up Albert Einstein!!

And yes… more than likely you will be talked about. In a lot of cases, you will be talked about badly. And a lot of that will come from people you thought were close to you. People you thought were better than that. People you thought would have your back forever. If you let someone talk you out of being successful… chances are you would have failed at whatever you were going to do anyway so just end it all now. Forget your dreams, your wants and your desires… What’s the point? If you don’t believe in yourself, nobody else can either.

“You are the only one that can ‘give up’ on you. Everybody else never believed in you in the first place!”

Big up B.C. Meekins (yeah me, lol)!!!

But if you want it, you will turn their negative words into positive motivation.

“A successful person is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks that others throw at him or her”

Big Up David Brinkley!!

Success isn’t about where you are. It’s about where you’re going. And how you’re going to get there. Define for you what you want and figure out when you want it and how you want it. It’s more to it than just saying it. If there are no actions put into play, you will continue to go through this slow spiral of self-loathing for not doing what you know you should. Doing what you’ve always done will only get you what you’ve always gotten. Change it up! Put some thought into what you think would make you successful, then when you’re finished thinking… go out and DO it!

Bless!
