Straight from New Jersey comes a rugged emcee with flair by the name of Miz. recently signed to Coast 2 Coast Mixtapes, Miz has been hard at work banging out mixtape after mixtape. After bouncing around from NJ to WA, Miz explains his life experiences and how they have helped him mold his rhymestyle and general approach to making music
Whats Poppin Miz? For those not familiar with the name just yet, run down the resume a bit.
Miz: It’s Miz of the RLC, Coast2Coast Mixtapes, Hi Rollerz Records, Jersey to the NorthWest you already know! Man the resume!? Ummmm. Lets see, 3 solo mixtapes, 2 Real Life Click mixtapes with a third on the way, 1 solo album, numerous features and appearances, on a Dj Radio mixtape, a Dj Scoob Doo mixtape and 47 different Coast2Coast mixtapes. I’m getting there!
When did you first start feeling the hip hop itch, and when did you know this is what you wanted to do as a career?
Miz: Ialways been a hip-hop head, they got video footage of me singing Ladi Dadi by Slick Rick when I was like 4, lol. But when I was like 14 or 15 I started just freestylin a little bit just for myself, but whenever someone would happen to hear me, they would always like what they heard. That helped me get my confidence up to where I started doing it all the time and writing songs. Started really pursuing it by the age of 17 and I haven’t stopped since.
How hard was it moving around so much at a young age as you tried to give this rap thing a real try?
Miz: It actually helped me with my writing a lot being able to see different places and what they were feeling in different areas. Gave me a broader sound I think.
How supportive were your parents and the people around you?
Miz: My mom has always been supportive, everyone else just kind of let’s me do me so they don’t really have to much input.
Being from Jersey, home of Joe Buddens, Redman, Naughty and many other legends, how much press do you feel repping this state with so much hip hop history?
Miz: Redman is hands down the greatest rapper to ever call Jersey home, Naughty also did a lot to put Jerz on the map. I’m just really proud to call Jersey my home, I’m also really proud to be a NorthWest repper also. It’s the best of both worlds.
What can we expect from ‘Real Life’ Vol 3? What do you want listeners to experience?
Miz: I just hope the people like it and can see the hard work we put into it and also see the growth. Honestly everytime I come out I always want it to be me, but different at the same time. I try to always elevate myself and the people around me.
Describe the ‘RLC’ movement and how you guys linked with Coast 2 Coast?
Miz: The movement is crazy man and Coast2Coast is just helping us show a larger audience how talented we are. The RLC is just a collective of artists who collab and support eachother. We all have our own musical plans as well as what we do together as a unit.
What is next on the agenda for Miz?
Miz: Just as much as possible. Real Life Vol. 3, then the RLC Compilation, and of course another Miz solo project. I also want to write a movie (need your help with that Fats, lol).
Where can we find you online?
Miz: You can find me at www.myspace.com/reallifemiz ; www.twitter.com/mizhirollerz ; www.coast2coastmixtapes.com
Any last shouts or plugs?
Miz: Definitely wanna holla at Lil Fats, The RLC, Young Asap, Nick, Fillet and the rest of the Coast2Coast/Hi Rollerz family. Also, Baseline in Perth Amboy.
