Jap City: A Homo Amongst Homos!

\"\"You know what the mythical “gayest shyt” is? When a man hates on the way another man dresses! If ever there was some “gay shyt,” this is it! Case in point: This rapper named Jap City.

\"\"

He’s got a video out addressing men wearing man-bags, tight jeans and scarves. Allhiphop.com recently ran his video, Niggas Wit Purses, which goes in on some of your favorite rappers, R&B singers and actors, including 50 Cent, Pharrell, Lil Wayne, Baby, Kanye West, Snoop Dogg, Usher, Duffle Bag Boys, David Banner, Lupe Fiasco, Jim Jones, Jay-Z, Omarion, Marlon Wayan, Ceelo Green, Sisqo, Fonsworth Bentley, Eminem, Elton John, T-Pain, Terrance Howard and several others. It is one of his missions in life to “inform” the hip-hop community as to the acceptable dress code. This is some ghetto fashion diva ish!

Jap City is killing his “career” even before the mainstream has a chance to hear him. And… he’s making enemies within the hip-hop world by calling out these rappers who don man-bags. Not a smart move.

Rappers will use any ol’ shtick to try to get famous! With all the shyt a brotha could rap about, why is this N-Bomb checkin’ for another ninja’s fashion sensibilities? The economy, the stock market, Obama, black-on-black crime, war, voting, teen pregnancies, AIDS, unemployment, foreclosures, the Republican Party—and this dude is on some couture ish! Hatin’! Dissin’! Didn’t we see this paradigm played out by 50 Cent and G-Unit? I was feelin’ son with the R Kelly diss, but I can’t ride with him on this one (because y’all already know I’m Ya Gay Friend’s Favorite Straight Friend and the “Spiritual Advisor to Gay Hip-Hop,” so I have a certain amount of bitchassness/sensitivity like that!) www.Hoodgrownonline.com bitches!

What Jap City fells to realize is that BLACK MEN have always been on some stylish shyt! This is our history! BLACK PEOPLE have always dressed and been trend-setters in fashion—from the African Wodaabe (Waadabe) Charm Dancers (who are some of the most beautiful, yes, beautiful men in the world) right on down to Prince!

\"\"

We are an eccentric people! We do stylish shyt! We don’t just score touchdowns! We end-zone dance on your ass! We don’t just go down the court and shoot a lay-up. We slam dunk that shyt in your face! We don’t just box. We shoeshine and rope-a-dope you to sleep! And when we dress, we don’t just throw on some Dockers and an I-Zod shirt. We get suited & booted!

Hip-hop is flashy! Hip-hop is pizzazz! Hip-hop is bling-bling! Hip-hop is swagger!

Hip- hop IS NOT monolithic! Hip-Hop IS NOT homo—homo, as in the Latin word meaning, “same.” Jap City, in dissin’ dudes who wear man-bags rapping, “Faggot-ass bags” is really the HOMO (same) because he’s advocating ‘hood cats wearing a certain homo (same) look—preferably over-sized T-shirts and baggy pants!

Look at the pioneers of hip-hop—Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Whodini and X-Clan—eccentric mofos!
\"\"

\"\"

Andre 3000, Busta Rhymes, and the Black-Eyed Peas—this is how we do it! You can’t regulate the black man’s style! We took “Nigger” and made it “nigga!” Now we takin’ “purse” and making it “man-bag!”

\"\"

\"\"

\"\"

But phuck the fashion garbage! Let’s get down to the homophobia. Jap City is a smart and clever rapper, but his lyrics are clearly homophobic! He and his rapping cohort Willie Will use the word fag/faggot over thirty-five times rapping, “Yeah, I got swag, but I ain’t walkin’ round wit’ no faggot-ass bag!” “Ain’t nothin’ gangsta about him/he only hard when he done watchin’ Broke Back Mountain!” “How can two grown men close they eyes and kiss?”

Jap City says he’s not dissin’ the gay community, yet raps, “How can two grown men close they eyes and kiss?,” a specific reference to Lil Wayne and Birdman kissing and a socio/religio/political commentary on homosexuality. He is further exacerbating the homophobia in the world and in hip-hop with his lyrics. Straight like that!

In his own words he writes, “YO THIS YA BOY JAPCITY …THIS IS NOT INTENDED TO BASH THE GAY COMMUNITY…THIS IS INTENTED TO BRING ABOUT AWARENESS OF THE GAY SHIT YOUR FAVORITE ARTIST IS OUT HERE DOING…..CALL ME THE HATER…..IM HERE TO IMFORM YOU THAT I WILL NOT STOP TARGETING THE INDUSTRY UNTIL YOU NIGGAS WAKE UP….SHOUTS TO ILLSEED AT ALLHIPHOP.COM…PEACE…BY THE WAY LIL WAYNE GOT A LIP RING…..NO HOMO LOL”

This is a crock of shit! Saying, “THIS IS NOT INTENDED TO BASH THE GAY COMMUNITY” is like a white boy from Iowa rapping, “Don’t wear those nigger-ass jeans, I’m a wigga, do you know what I mean?” THIS IN NOT INTENDED TO BASH THE BLACK COMMUNITY… THIS IS INTENED TO BRING AWARENESS OF THE NIGGER SHIT YOUR FAVORITE WHITE ARTIST IS OUT HERE DOING!”

You can’t change the meaning of the word faggot and not a expect a homosexual person to take offense no more than a white person can change the meaning of the word nigger and expect that black people won’t get offended. Jap City chooses not to find the right words to express his outrage with men wearing purses (as if there is some legitimate outrage in the ‘hoods of America over the man-bag!), so he takes the convenient homophobic route, but I’m here to check these hip-hop N-Bombs and shine the light on ignorance. Jap City! You’re better than that! You’re a smart young man who’s semi-conscious of the world around you. Hatin’ is hatin’ and hatred is hatred! Elevate your intellect and use your God-given talent to leave this earth a better place than when you found it. Rapping about what a man wears is some “gay shyt!” It makes you a homo amongst homos! And if man-bags, scarves and tight jeans have your panties in a knot, what are you gonna do when the first outwardly gay rapper steps on the mainstream stage? Mark my word! It’s coming! (Can you say, “Last Offence?”) Step your lyrical content up or fall off the earth! And yes! I rock a Louis Vuitton man-bag and a scarf!

  1. i heard that song and “DA TRUTH SAIDS ITS TRASH”. his song would have been better if he talked about all the gay shit he’s doing by questioning other mens gayness. As a non gay male myself, i must add, why is he in the studio thinking how gay someone else is? If you use his logic most pimps are gay, which i do believe. even through rappers today cant really rap. hell most of them dont even rhyme. i dont see the point of using a gaydar to question them. unless, you know something everybody else knows, and that only could happen if you run in those circles so now your gayness is in questions. i think everyone should do a gay background (no homo) check on this dude for bring up something no straight male should be thinking about.

Exact-amundo! Jap City killed it on the R. Kelly song, but this is just wrong! Hip-hop is sooo clonish. Let niggas have they styles! If you’re a thug, than the man-bag prolly isn’t your thing! Personally, when I carry my man-bag I got that heater inside… just in case! I’m too old to be fightin’! The only thing strong on me is my index finger! lol!

Body: From Khalil Amani To JAPCITY:

I totally disagree with what you wrote, but I respect your opinion and like I said in my piece, I think you’re a very talented/clever rapper whose voice needs to be heard. The shit you did to R KELLY WAS DEAD ON! I commend you for that because I have four daughters that I’d killa nigga over! Feel me? Rather than deconstruct your email point-by-point, I’ll post it on my blogs and let HIP-HOP have their say. lol (And yes, I have a GREAT sense of humor!).. back at ‘cha!

I’m glad that you did the song, because, like I’m helping to highlight your career, you are helping to bring awareness to homophobia in hip-hop. The point is not missed on who you are targeting… I get it…totally… but, as the spiritual advisor for gay hip-hop (yes, there’s a shit load of openly gay/lesbian rappers, one being a lesbian named Veto Ali of Chi-Town), it is my responsibity to chime in on that song. No personal beef and I hope you didn’t miss my point calling you a homo (meaning of Latin “same” also “man”).

Believe it or not, I too am a straight black man, but I have evolved and dealt with my own homophobia and written extensively about our homophobia, which is religiously based. So I say, keep doing what you are doing brother. I hope that you blow the fuck up, because your voice does speak a great amount of truth. All I would ask is that you understand that gays/lesbians are part of hip-hop culture no matter how much mainstream hip-hop tries to shit on them. There is a MOVEMENT among gay/lesbian rappers that will not be denied! Your brother in Hip-Hop & blackness, Khalil Amani.

  6. even though you dont agree with his views at least he’s intelligent enough to get his point across. I dont agree with little boys wearing skirts but a kilt. I still dont feel the song (not really into beef rap) but the views are interesting when he explains them.

  7. Absolutely! I can respect any man who can intelligently and cogently represent their views (how ever warped they might be). And he’s right about one thing: Hip-hop can’t be censored as he might think gays want to do with using the F-Bomb (faggot). But let’s keep it 100. Hip-hop does censor! How many white rappers use “nigga” in their rhymes? ZERO! How “sensitive” would hip-hop America be if Eminem, Beastie Boys, Bubba Sparxxx, and Vanilla Ice used “nigga” in their rhymes? More importantly, why haven’t white rappers used the N-Word in their rhymes? I think we all know the answer to that question. Black folk are SENSITIVE about white folks using the N-Word! And rightly so! But a gay person shouldn’t be SENSITIVE about the F-WORD? Hmmm? Sounds like a double standard and the slighting of one’s pain! Black folk would be OUTRAGED if any other race of rappers used the N-Word! So why should gays & lesbians be offended when people use the F-Word? Do black folk have a monopoly on sensitivity and degradation? I think not! This is where JAPCITY misses the point!

  8. So I’m a gay rapper and I’m always interested in what Khalil’s got to say. Personally…this sort of thing doesn’t bother me. No straight rapper could ever really offend me because they are for the most part….simple. I can’t be offended by duke (Jap City) cause he’s simply a product and he’s been indoctrinated…and it is what it is. He spoke about social norms and he’s right — his opinions aren’t even his own…he’s been shaped by all those who surround him — he is a product of this society. So Khalil, I feel you, but when you ask me to be in uproar I can’t really get that emotion off of this…I don’t see this as an individual’s expression, I see it as a reflection of society. As a result, I have no problem with this individual Jap City. Just my humble opinion on it.
