J Clash

\"jclash\"Sometimes people forget about good music and how to make it. Whether it comes for the passion and your drive or it comes from your life experiences and your every day struggle. Good Music is just that, good music. One new artist from Yonkers NY, who knows what good music is, because he makes alot of it, is J Clash. A rapid fire emcee that utilizes his day to day to continue to stay creative regardless the obstacle. Poised with a new single \’Get Away\’, a new album \’Walk on Water\’ and the determination of the Obama campaign, J Clash is on his way to see the necessary change in hip hop so others can understand his plight.

What\’s good J Clash, for those who haven\’t heard about you just yet, let them know about your movement.

My movement is strong, my lyrics are crazy, my beats are crack and my determination is unbreakable. But you wont ever fully understand what I mean until you take the time to listen to my new album \”Walk on Water\”

Lets start with the name, where did you get it and what\’s the story behind it?

I actually got the name from break dancing back in the day. I was known as \”B Boy Clash\” so people have been calling me \”Clash\” forever.  Then when I started rapping I just added the J myself from my first name Jonathan.

So, you rep Yonkers to the fullest, home of The Lox, Mary J, DMX and a host of other talented artists, what can you tell the readers about the climate of hip hop in YO? (as we call it)

The hip hop climate in Y.O. is gritty. If you are from Yonkers, you listen to hardcore rap. I mean just look who has came out of Y.O. DMX who\’s album \”Its Dark and Hell is Hot\” Has STILL not came out of my car stereo system,Then you have Styles P who is hands down the most gangster rapper in the game.  These are the artists that the new up and coming Y.O. rappers are looking up to, so of coarse Yonkers is going to always have that gritty feel to it when it comes to its hip hop climate

Seems like you had a pretty confrontational childhood and you and your parents somewhat \’clashed\’ quite often, was there an issue with you wanting to be in the rap game?

Nah it wasn\’t confrontational with my parents because of my music, that was one thing they didn\’t mind me doing. It was just a real tense situation in the house.  My father just got remarried after he and my mother got divorced so there was a lot of tension between me him and my step-mother. Plus right after the divorce I just stopped giving a fuck about everything, so I didn\’t have the best attitude in the world.

When you were 17 they kicked you out, how did that affect your career choice and overall mentality?

Being on your own at 17, your mentality changes into scramble mode, and you just do whatever you can to survive. I had no car, worked 2 jobs and hustled on the side just to get by.  My career choice may have changed but my dream never did. All I ever wanted to do was make music and that\’s all I ever will want to do. So anything else I\’m doing besides music is just paying the bills and is only temporary in my eyes

Lets talk about your new single \’Get Away\’, what\’s the concept and what type of feedback are you getting thus far?

Everybody has stress in there lives, whether its a little or a lot, it eventually starts to get the best of you, and this song is expressing my need to \”get away\” from the stress. Whether its take a vacation or blowing your brains out, we ALL look for away to \”get away\” from the stress of everyday life. The feedback I\’m getting from the single is great. I don\’t think there is anybody that can\’t relate to this song.

You also have a new album called \’Walk on Water\’, take us through the creative process and what the listeners will experience?

Good fucking music. I recorded 20 songs and only put 12 on the album.  I cut out all the bullshit, you can listen to my whole album without skipping a song.  People aren\’t making good albums anymore.  Everyone is just looking for that one single, and than they just slap together the rest of the album. Not me.  My album has substance and variety. I have deep emotional songs like \”Sit and Think\” and \”Get Away\”. I have club bangers \”What a Hater Gotta Say?\” and \”I\’m a Boss\” (which has a dirty south feel to it). I have my songs for the ladies \”Extacy\” and \”I like it\” and I also have a story as the last song on my album called \”Dear Erica\” My album is an emotional roller coaster.  It\’ll make you dance, make you wild out, make you zone out, and make you sit there and say \”What the fuck did he just say?\” Believe me, you wont be disappointed if you took the time to listen.

You have a very intense stage show, seems like you straight zone once the music comes on. What do want those watching to absorb from your performance?

I want people to just feel my energy. I want people to relate to my more serious songs, and I want people to bop there heads to my other shit.  When I step on stage I want to give you an experience, not a show. When I\’m up there I give it 120% and if you\’re not a fan before you see me live, than you will be after.

So what\’s next on J Clash\’s plate?

Anybody that gets in the way of my goals.
