Get Featured
One of the unique aspects of Hood Grown magazine is that it fosters the discovery of new music and artist whether they’re on a major or independent music label. HoodGrown is one of the few websites that support independent artists and labels without any payola or bullshit. As long as you’re an indie artist trying to do your thing, we got your back!
There are four sections where we usually feature upcoming talent:
- Up-Next: Where we feature upcoming rappers, singers & reggaeton artists.
- Producers Consideration: Where we feature producers on the rise.
- Mixtapes: This is where we feature new mixtapes/street albums.
- Album Listening Party: This is where Hoodgrown visitors can sample your official album before purchasing.
The steps to getting featured on HoodGrown Online are as follows:
- 1. Register for the site is to register for an account here. We feel that if we’re going to support you, the least you can do is support us by becoming a member of the site.
- 2. Create a profile (ie: click here to see what they look like). We will pull the information used on the site directly from this profile.
- Once you’ve set up your profile shoot an email to hoodgrown.productions@gmail.com. In the subject line of the email include either “Up-Next Consideration”, “Producer Consideration”, “Album Listening Party”, “New Mixtapes”. The body of the email should contain a link to your Hoodgrown Profile and if you want samples of your music featured with your article, then you should also include the links to some kind of player that can easily be embedded into our site (ie: Twitmuzik)
Rules of submission:
- 1. A WELL WRITTEN bio. I can’t stress this enough. Check out the stuff featured on the site, if you’re writting skills are not up to par get someone to do it for it. All bios should be in the "third person" meaning a sentence should not read "In 1990 I was featured in the Source Magazine" it should read "In 1990 (the artist) was featured in the Source Magazine". Bios should be in a format that can be easily copied and pasted (no jpegs or PDFs). No one has the time to retype your info.
- 2. A photo or logo of the artist/group in jpeg format (no bmp files) WITH NO TEXT ON IT.
- 3. If you’d like to include music with your article please upload your music to a site with a player that can be embedded such as www.twtmuzik.com and send us the link to it.
- 4. The only way to find out when you’ve been featured on our site is when you receive our email updates, check the site, or join us on Twitter. We will not email people personally when they or their artists are featured on our site. We run a new artist/producer approximately every 3 to 4 days.
For “Album Listening Party” submitters email us the following:
- 1. An image of the album cover in jpeg format (no bmp files).
- 2. Your FULL album (full songs or at lest 60 second soundclips) in a format that can be easily embedded into our site. For example, Twtmuzik.com.
- 3. A link where your album can be purchased or downloaded.
- 4. Your album’s tracklisting in a format that can be easily copied and pasted and a short paragraph describing your project.
- 5. This space is not for mixtapes, only OFFICIAL ALBUMS.
