If you’d like to get featured on the Hoodgrown website and/or in Hoodgrown Magazine, READ THE FAQ BELOW BEFORE SUBMITTING A QUESTION as we will not respond to any question that has been answered below.

1. How can I (or my artist) get featured in your magazine?

Hoodgrown Magazine offers two ways for indie/upcoming artists to get noticed.

Bubbling Over

Bubbling Over is our column in which we highlight upcoming artist who haven’t developed a real buzz yet. The column consist of a one paragraph write up, a link to artists’ site, and a song included in the article.

Next Up

The Next-Up is where we feature nationally buzzing artists (ie: Kanary Diamonds, Torae, etc.). This consists of a full page interview, link to artists’ site, and a song or video included in the article. The Hoodgrown staff decides if an artist is buzzing nationally, you can not request to be included in “Next Up”.

You can start out in our “Bubbling Over” column then generate enough buzz to eventually be featured in our “Next Up” column.

2. What We Need From You

1. A Hi-Resolution photo of the artist (no cellphone photos, album covers, or photos with text on them). Photos should be at least 300dpi in resolution
2. A WELL WRITTEN bio
3. An mp3 of your music
4. If you’re nationally buzzing send us a link to your YouTube video as well.

3. What We Need From You

We can not and will not email everyone to let them know if and/or when their article will run. I would suggest you follow us on Twitter and pick up each issue of the magazine.

4. How To Guarantee Placement

Note that there is a back log of artists waiting to be included in the magazine but by dealing with our established partners you guarantee immediate placement in Hoodgrown Magazine.

1. How can I (or my artist) get featured on your website?

Hoodgrown is one of the few sites that’s has a “NO BULLSHIT” policy. We don’t charge to get featured on our site. With that said we ask those wanting to be featured on the site to follow us on Twitter and/or Facebok. We feel that if you’re asking us to do a favor for you…. the least you can do is become a member.

2. Ok I’m a member of the Hoodgrown website, now what?

We have a few different sections so please note as to what section you would like to be featured in:

• News – Submit us a well written press release and upload a photo ( no smaller than 300×300 no larger than 500×500) of the artists or subject (with no type on them). If your press release is not well written or features irrelevant information… it will be rejected.

• Audio – As a small company we don’t have the web space to host every indie artists song, what we ask of you is to join a service like SoundCloud and submit the embed code along with the name of the song & artist and upload a photo ( no smaller than 300×300 no larger than 500×500). If the sound quality of your music is not up to par… it will be rejected.

• Video – We only accept Youtube videos. Sorry, that’s all our system will work with. Submit the YouTube video link along with the name of the song & artist and upload a photo ( no smaller than 300×300 no larger than 500×500 – a screenshot of the video would be better). If the quality of your video is not up to par… it will be rejected.

• Up-Next – Submit a well written bio and upload a photo ( no smaller than 300×300 no larger than 500×500). Make sure the image is of the artist (not an album cover) and has no text on it. Make sure to include links to your websites. If your bio is not well written… it will be rejected.

• Mixtapes – Submit a well written paragraph describing your mixtape, a link where the mixtape can be downloaded from and upload the mixtape cover ( no smaller than 300×300 no larger than 500×500). If your mixtape cover is amateurish… it will be rejected.

3. How will I know the stuff I’d submitted is featured on the site?

Understand that we’re not going to email you personally and let you know. We’re busy and the truth of the matter is that not everyone’s material will make it to the site. We won’t respond to emails asking us “when are we going to be on the site?”. Check the site on a daily basis and/or follow us on Twitter @hoodgrownmag.
