Kentucky has always found it difficult to earn a respected position in hip-hop due to the ignorant and exaggerated stereotype suggesting that the Bluegrass State is country or “backwards”. Thankfully, there is now an artist proving to the hip hop world that true lyricism does in fact live in Kentucky. Hailing from Lexington, Kentucky, David Drummond a.k.a. DeCypha, has made his mark and earned the respect of many artists and listeners by incorporating his battle-style lyricism with hard metaphors, punch lines, and heartfelt words. In his lyrics you will find snippets from the good and bad moments in his life, real moments that have structured him into the man and artist that he is today.

With raw lyrical talent comes respect and acknowledgement in the hip hop community and DeCypha has definitely earned just that. Rapping now for seven years, he has received a significant amount of radio spins on college and other local radio stations, and the love from his community. He has successfully completed two underground albums (The Outline I, and The Outline II) and two mixtapes (The Answer, and Reality Check). His next mixtape, Reality Check 2 will be out February 15, 2009. DeCypha has also won numerous lyrical and freestyle battles.

Having being inspired by artists such as Nas, Jay-Z, and Scarface, it is no wonder that DeCypha’s lyricism is unmatched.
