Immortal Technique – Observations of Haiti

I recently arrived home from Haiti. While I was there I worked in a few aspects of the relief effort including a solidarity mission to aid the Earthquake survivors. In addition to all of this Myself, Cormega and Styles P participated in a show to support Haitian Hip Hop and rebuild the community. I would like to thank Arms Around Haiti and Hip Hop for Haiti for inviting me to be a part of this movement. While I was there I saw both devastation and rebuilding efforts. I also broke bread with people who had lost their entire family. Literally, everyone but them was deceased. Then there were those whose grief centered around losing a mother, father, brother, sister, son, or daughter as a direct result of what happened. It should make everyone reading this feel blessed to have anyone in his or her life. Think about that… Now think about it some more.

Cimer Amor: Taking Nowhere, Somewhere (Album Review)

Well-known underground hip-hop super producer Cimer Amor is going to re-define what we expect of hip-hop with the release of his new album Taking Nowhere, Somewhere June 29, 2010. This album contains fourteen tracks with hard-core beats and raw lyrics. These cuts are truly from the streets and for the streets (and the clubs). When you download this album, I recommend that you listen to the last track, “Chose Me,” first so you’ll know that you won’t be disappointed when you get to the end.

Why We Laugh (DVD Review)

Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock, Steve Harvey, Eddie Murphy, Bill Cosby, Whoopi Goldberg and other legendary comedians together for about ninety minutes without having to spend $1000 on a concert ticket—yeah right! Thanks to the DVD Why We Laugh, a documentary on the history of black comedy produced by comedian/actor Robert Townsend, you can laugh and learn from comedic geniuses from the past and present. One of the original Queens of Comedy, Sommore, says, “If you want to know what is going on in our communities, watch our comedy.” Why We Laugh takes you on a journey through African American history, and unfortunately, not all of it was funny.
