Lord Jamar issues statement on the use of the word “faggot”

lordjamar-feature

I can see why people have a hangup with the use of the word faggot. In a perfect world, it would be just as much of a taboo as anyone who isn’t black saying nigga/nigger. But I didn’t write the rules of the game, and I don’t have enough cache’ to re-write them all by myself. The time will likely come where that’s completely off limits, but Rome wasn’t built in a day. Hip Hop is a genre & culture that has always been dominated by alpha males, and questioning someone’s manhood has long been the most effective tactic of getting under an opponent’s skin in a battle. That’s just part of the sport of being an MC.

I don’t blame anyone for being mad at me for saying it (or mad at Sadat for what he said 20 years ago), but neither of us intended to offend gay people...

The Budding Rapper Known as “The Gay Slim Shady…”

Rap has a notorious reputation for homophobia, but is that all starting to change? Rappers like 50 Cent, Game, Fat Joe, and A$AP Rocky have softened their tones of late, just like society at a large. But that assumes that these rappers are steering the ship: after all, deeply-set homophobia has been a major put-off for gay fans for decades, and potentially a starting point for more reactionary lyricism.

Like those of Cocky da Homo MC, aka “The Gay Slim Shady,” an out-and-out gay rapper who has no problem dropping grenades on the most venerable of rap legends: Biggy, Tupac, and especially Eminem.

Blasphemy? Depends on the perspective. You see, Cocky blames Eminem’s rampantly homophobic lyrics for a nightmarish streak of bullying in high school...

Mobb Deep’s Prodigy Proclaims ‘I’m Not F*ckin with Havoc No More’ x No More Album Releases?

After all the drama, it looks as though Mobb Deep fans can kiss any chance of a new album goodbye as sources close to the situation confirm that Prodigy and Havoc are in fact done creating new music together.

The hip hop world was in complete shock when Havoc took to Twitter a few weeks ago taking shots at his long time partner in crime, Mobb Deep member Prodigy. The entire situation continued to escalate, and as more evidence piled against Havoc, he continued to deny the beef accusations, claiming his phone was stolen.

Now a source close to the situation tells XXLMag that Havoc has been dealing with alcohol issues, and the two have had issues since P became a free man last year.

“While he was up there, 50 Cent came to visit a couple times...

If They Don’t Get It Right… (The not-so-curious-case of Trayvon Martin)

I blame my radicalness on my 5th grade Social Studies teacher—a white lady who opened my eyes to the plight of Black America and the injustices of White America—from the Kent State Riot to the Vietnam War to the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The seed of confrontation was planted many moons ago. I didn’t just become this fire-spitting dragon in the Internet age on Facebook! I done rode shotgun with Yahweh ben Yahweh, sat on the same stage with Farrakhan and had dinner with Kwame Toure’ (Stokely Carmichael). You don’t get much more militant than that! Check the credits!

In 1980 I was a 20 year old college kid—militant to the core with a chip on my shoulder. I felt like I had a bone to pick with the white man“Omnipotent Administrator” (Eldridge Cleaver’s designation for ...

Busta Rhymes Says MegaUpload Was a Much Better Deal for Artists Than Spotify…

Not everyone thinks MegaUpload was such a bad thing. That includes Busta Rhymes, who recently came to the defense of recently-named MegaUpload CEO Swizz Beats, while pointing to a model that actually monetizes free downloads. That’s a story that includes the unlaunched MegaBox, which planned to pay artists 90 percent of revenues (and even pay out on free downloads). All without any major label involvement.

Through a series of extended tweets (through twi.me), Busta Rhymes said it out loud: MegaUpload was actually a better deal for artists than Spotify.
1st of all I am soooo proud of my brother @THEREALSWIZZZ 4 being apart of creating something (MEGAUPLOAD) that could create the most powerful way 4 artists 2 get 90% off of every dollar despite the music being downloaded 4 free…

With label...

Sara Baartman: The First Video Vixen!

Before there were ass-shots and butt injections and butt pads—before Kim Kardashian’s voluptuous derrière—before every fine white girl had a “bubble butt”—there was the “Hottentot Venus” a.k.a. Sara Baartman, the biggest piece of ass (and I say that affectionately and respectfully) that the world has ever known. She was dubbed “Hottentot,” which means “people with cattle” and “Venus” after the Roman goddess of love. Her name Saartjie was shortened to “Sara.”

(Sara Baartman)

Most video vixens, strippers and porn stars don’t know who Sara Baartman was...

Top 50 Songs in 2011 You May Never Have Heard Of

It’s subjective. It’s my opinion, although I have excellent taste in music (conceited bastard). I ranked these songs on the merits of their content, production, the emcee’s lyrical ability and flow, and originality. All of theses songs have some combination of the aforementioned. They may rank higher in one area than others.

Did I miss some? Of course I did. But this is the grand sense of the music that I appreciated in 2011.

1. Stayin’ Busy – Silent Knight (prod. by The Audible Doctor) – This song had me open for the longest time. The beat, the sample, and Knight’s lyrics really one me over from day one. SK and The Audible Doctor are the big winners here. This song has remained my number one song from it’s inception in February.

2. Agnes In Wunderland Remix – Mem...
