Despite being one of, if not the first mainstream UK artist to truly ride the R&B-club wave in the 90s, the ‘Return of the Mack’ singer hasn’t released a lot of music since. When he does however, it’s usually good and he hasn’t moved over to David Guetta and Will.i.am’s dance music.
So, Mark Morrison’s latest exercise in good judgement comes with his track “IAmWhatIAm (Remix)” — an uplifting, anthemic, chopped & screwed summer jam. It’s a hot number, Mark sounds hungry and he’s saying something. The Mark Sparks beat uses wobbly, electro-infused drops, before chopping and twisting Mark’s vocals in a way southern producers usually toy with. Crooked I heats up the track at the end with his usual cocky bars and over smart metaphors.
